A Slice of Paradise: Why Pizza is the Ultimate Holden Beach Memory

I often get asked what makes Holden Beach so special. While the answer usually starts with our pristine sand and "family-first" atmosphere, it often ends with a story about a specific meal.

There is something uniquely nostalgic about vacation pizza.

It’s the sound of the screen door slamming as someone runs in with a stack of hot boxes. It’s the messy, paper-plate dinner after a long day in the salt air, or the late-night cold slice eaten over the kitchen island while planning tomorrow’s boat trip. Better yet, it's eating a slice on the beach while watching the sunset.

In Holden Beach, pizza isn't just a quick meal; it’s the fuel for our best memories.

If you’re looking for the perfect pie to anchor your next beach memory, here are three local staples you cannot miss.

Patronies Pizza: A Taste of Brooklyn on the Coast

Located just across the bridge in Supply, Patronies Pizza is a local institution. Known for their "Born in Brooklyn" roots, they bring authentic New York-style craftsmanship to the beach.

  • The Vibe: Friendly and fun - it has all kinds of wall decor to take in while waiting for your quintessential "beach pizza." It’s the kind of place where the staff remembers your name if you visit twice in one week.

  • The Crust: Hand-tossed, golden-brown, and featuring that signature "NY fold."

  • Must-Try: Their Garlic Knots are legendary—but if you’re feeling adventurous, try The Big Dill (for the pickle lovers) or their Shrimp Parmesan Pizza, which perfectly marries Italian tradition with our local coastal flavors.

Sorellas: Italian Hospitality & Gourmet Pies

Located right on the Holden Beach Causeway, Sorellas (which means "sister" in Italian) is the sophisticated younger sibling to the area’s beloved Maria’s Pizzeria. It offers a slightly more elevated take on Italian classics.

  • The Vibe: Warm, welcoming, and perfect for a family sit-down dinner or a high-quality takeout night. They focus on fresh ingredients and "family spirit."

  • The Menu: While they serve a full menu with incredible pasta, their pizza is a standout. They offer a 10" and 16" build-your-own option, alongside specialty pies.

  • Must-Try: The Chicken Parmigiana Pizza is a crowd favorite, offering a hearty, comforting meal that feels like a Sunday dinner on a crust. For those with dietary preferences, they also offer a cauliflower crust that doesn't skimp on flavor.

Pepe’s Pizza: The Heart of the Island

This is the "if you know, you know" spot of Holden Beach and Supply. Located on Stone Chimney Road, Pepe’s Pizza is the ultimate off-the-beaten-path hidden gem.

  • The Vibe: Super casual, a little old school, and probably full of locals. It’s the place you go in your flip-flops after a Sunday night concert at the pavilion or a long afternoon at the park.

  • The Hook: It’s all about the location and the ease - easy to grab a box to take back to your oceanfront deck. When you go in to grab your take out, you'll notice they also offer a breakfast all day menu!

  • Must-Try: We love the The Farmers Market Pizza with Peppers, Spinach, Onions, Mushrooms, Olives, Jalapenos, Artichokes & Tomatoes.

Whether you’re grabbing a stack of boxes from Patronies to feed a houseful of grandkids, enjoying a quiet sunset dinner from Sorellas on your deck, or hitting Pepe's on the way home from the beach... these local spots are part of what makes living in—and visiting—Holden Beach so delightful.

Thinking about making these pizza runs a permanent part of your life? I’d love to help you find the perfect beach house where you can start making your own memories starring a great slice of pizza
