🎵 Live Music: The 2026 Oak Island Summer Concert Series


Nothing brings the island together quite like Friday nights at Middleton Park (4610 E. Dolphin Drive). The free Oak Island Summer Concert Series is a local staple, running every Friday evening from late May through August 28th, 2026, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  

Local Insider Tip: Bring your favorite blanket or lawn chair, but leave the wallets at home unless you want to treat yourself to the local food trucks lining the park! It's a completely family-friendly event where kids can burn off energy at the playground while parents enjoy the tunes.


🎵 The 2026 Summer Concert Series

We are incredibly lucky to have not just one, but two fantastic, free summer concert series right at our fingertips. Between Holden Beach and our close neighbors at Ocean Isle Beach, you can easily dance your way through the entire weekend!



Sunset on Summer Music Festival

Can't get enough live music? This end-of-season block party features two stages hosting multiple live bands throughout the day, endless food trucks, and a massive fireworks show right on the beach to say goodbye to summer in style!  September 5, 2026 (12:00 PM – 8:00 PM)  


🎬 Outdoor Movie Nights Under the Stars

When the sun goes down, grab your blankets and candy box for some cinematic magic in the fresh coastal air.


🍿 Southport "Movies on the Lawn"

Where: Fort Johnston Garrison Lawn (203 E. Bay Street, Southport)

When: Selected Friday nights throughout the summer and autumn at dusk.

What to Expect: Set right on the historic riverfront lawn in Southport, these free outdoor movie nights feature everything from family animation blockbusters to spooky autumn favorites.

🏝️ Oak Island Beach Day: 4th of July Celebration

When: July 1, 2026 (All Day)  

Where: Middleton Park Complex & SE 46th Street Beach Access  









Commemorating the 1999 merger of Yaupon Beach and Long Beach into the Oak Island, Beach Day is OKI's proudest annual tradition. The island completely lets loose with a jam-packed schedule of nostalgic, family-friendly competitions.


The fun begins at 7:00 AM with event registration, kicking off a full day of sandcastle-building contests, beach volleyball, cornhole, horseshoes, and the crowd-favorite "Stars, Stripes, & Snouts" Dog Costume Contest. Kids love the on-site inflatables, water balloon tosses, and the hilarious "Freedom Scoot" baby crawling race.  


The Grand Finale:

As night falls, the party shifts to the Middleton Park Amphitheater for an evening concert, culminating in a jaw-dropping fireworks display launched right off the Oak Island Pier (705 Ocean Drive) at dusk. Best of all, town-sponsored parking is free for the event!

🎆The Historic NC 4th of July Festival in Southport



When: June 26 – July 4, 2026  

Where: Downtown Waterfront Park & Fort Johnston Lawn, Southport  

This is one of the largest, oldest, and most famous Independence Day celebrations in the entire United States, boasting a history of over 220 years! 





Tens of thousands of visitors from across the country descend on our historic neighboring town to experience this bucket-list event. The streets fill with hundreds of arts, crafts, and food vendors, while live concerts and street dances keep Waterfront Park rocking for days.  


Unforgettable Festival Highlights:

  • The Freedom Flotilla: A uniquely coastal parade of heavily decorated, patriotic boats cruising down the Cape Fear River.  

  • Living History Reenactments: Experience the 1795 Independence Day reenactment at Fort Johnston, complete with ceremonial toasts and musket-fire salutes.  

  • The Official Parade (July 4th): Stepping off at 11:00 AM, this legendary parade floods downtown Howe Street with marching bands, military displays, and elaborate floats.  

  • Waterfront Fireworks Finale: On the evening of July 4th, an extraordinary fireworks display lights up the night sky directly over the massive tidal expanse of the Cape Fear River.

The fun doesn't stop with July! Oak Island and Southport bookend the warm seasons with excellent seafood and sporting events.


🍤 Oak Island Seafood Festival (Spring)

When: Saturday, May 2, 2026 (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM)

Where: Middleton Park Complex

The Vibe: Come hungry! This incredible spring festival features local seafood vendors, live cooking demonstrations, educational booths, a curated coastal craft market, and live music from regional favorites.


⚓️ U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament (Fall)



When: Early October (Beginning October 1, 2026)

Where: Dutchman Creek Park







The Vibe: Even if you aren't an angler, this is an electric weekend to be in town. As one of the largest king mackerel tournaments on the East Coast, it brings hundreds of boats to the area, alongside a fantastic community buzz, live music, and seafood dinners at the docks. Learn More.

When: Mid-February (Presidents' Day Weekend)

Distances: Ultra Marathon (26.25 miles), Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, & 1-Mile.  

The Course: This massive event kicks off the famous BAM! (Big Ass Medals) Series. The courses take you right past the Oak Island Lighthouse, across the Intracoastal Waterway bridge, and along miles of direct ocean views.
